News about this weekend’s Orange Pip

Orange Pip Market – set to be held in Middlesbrough centre tomorrow (Saturday, October 28) – has been forced to cancel over safety concerns due to expected high winds.

The structures the market requires, including stalls and the stage, cannot be put up in the conditions expected tomorrow.

Middlesbrough Council has accepted the recommendations that it would be unsafe to go ahead with the October edition of the monthly event and is now wanting to inform the thousands of Orange Pip fans that it has been a necessary decision to take.

A spokesman said: “It’s devastating to have to cancel Orange Pip Market but public safety and that of our stallholders and our performers and artists is paramount – structures simply cannot be built in the forecasted conditions. It’s even harder to announce this on a lovely sunny day such as today, but it’s completely unavoidable.

“At the start of the week forecasts suggested that the weather would be within acceptable guidelines for the event to be run safely, however in the last 24 hours this has deteriorated rapidly.”

Orange Pip has been cancelled once before due to similar weather conditions on Christmas Eve last year.

The market will return as usual next month on Saturday, November 25 and then again for its Christmas special on Christmas Eve. It will then take a winter break for three months and return in April 2018.
